I’m gonna make a change, for once in my life …
It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference gonna make it right . . . but no, no it didn’t. Baseball season has officially commenced, and what a mired summer the sport has suffered. How must the sport’s higher ups feel when this man is the “face of the sport”?

Surprisingly, baseball isn’t trying too hard to improve its fading self-image. The New York Yankees swallowed the free agent market this summer, possibly as a way to justify the 1.5 billion dollar price tag on its new Bronx residence. In today’s economy, is this luxurious spending truly justifiable? Mark Teixeira and C.C. Sabathia both signed mammoth contracts this year, 8yr/180M for the former, 7yr/161M for the latter. Not too shabby considering the state of the country, but it begs the question: Is this what baseball needs? My answer is yes. The Yankees need to become dominant again, as they are the perfect team for people to hate. A large market powerhouse that spends at will and rubs it in the face of small and mid-sized cities. We need this because America loves underdogs. The Yankees must find a way to not only compete, but dominate. It may actually behoove the sport to have a mini-dynasty arise in Gotham and build the hatred for two to four years, then have a miracle team similar to the Arizona Diamondbacks of 2001. Will this year’s Yankees do anything to shake the image above? We’ll soon find out.
Editor’s note:
A friend of mine, who is admittedly a strong advocate for baseball, claims Tom Brady has done photoshoots just as incriminating as Alex Rodriguez’ above. Apart from this:

I can’t really think of anything a person could do that would even approach A-Rod’s decision. And hey, maybe after rotating super models, a guy just needs some goat time.

Give the man a break. He was at least semi-single at the time, and lets face it chicks dig small animals. Also it was on a farm, it wasnt in time square.
