NFL All Decade Team
ESPN recently ran the following article regarding the NFL’s all decade team. We thought about this at FT3s, and each shared the following views:
All Decade Team (2000 – 2008)
QB: Tom Brady
RB: Ladainian Tomlinson
FB: Lorenzo Neal
WR: Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison
TE: Tony Gonzalez
T: Jonathan Ogden, Willie Roaf
G: Larry Allen, Will Shields
C: Kevin Mawae
DE: Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor
DT: Warren Sapp, Ted Washington
OLB: Derrick Brooks, Keith Bulluck
MLB: Ray Lewis
CB: Champ Bailey, Ty Law
S: Ed Reed, Sean Taylor
K: Adam Vinatieri
P: Shane Lechler
KR/PR: Devin Hester
SP: Brendon Ayanbadejo, Larry Izzo
HC: Bill Belichick
DC: Dick Lebeau
OC: Charlie Weis
Special teams Coach: Dave Toub
Here is what I’m thinking. I had a real question going in that Strahan and Taylor would win, considering you have Peppers, Seymour, Freeney, Rice, Kerney, etc. However, when you look at their numbers, those guys were pretty much the most unstoppable edge rushers of the decade, and are probably in the conversation for top five of all time. I had to stay with them, but I changed most of the other positions (defense only):
DE
Taylor, Strahan
DT
Casey Hampton, La’RoiGlover
LB
SAM – Vrabel
MIKE – Ray Lewis
WILL – Joey Porter
CB
Bailey, Asomugha
S
Lynch, Dawkins
These sorts of lists are always controversial. I know that there are some great players left off this list. Even though there are some retired players on this list, if they were dominant for a better part of the years from 2000 to 2008, they are eligible as far as I am concerned. Feel free to respond with your ideas of how you disagree or agree. I am interested to see were other fans views lay on this topic.
