Net Worth – Atlantic Division – Boston Celtics Still Contending
With the dog days of the NBA upon us, teams are still trying to find the missing pieces to cement their spot in next year’s postseason. The current rumor in the New England area is that the Boston Celtics are interested in trading power forwards with New Jersey. Obviously, it is not Kevin Garnett, but Glen “Big Baby” Davis who may be destined for the Meadowlands in exchange for Yi Jianlian.
While Yi has put up arguably better statistics, Davis’ performance in the playoffs is as any to Celtics fans. While filling in for an injured Kevin Garnett, Big Baby put averaged nearly 16/6/2 in the post season. While a little curious that the Celtics would want to rid themselves of Davis, the prospect of mining the Chinese market may be of more interest to them. Yi has always had questionable NBA talents, but the amount of revenue he brings in from the foreign fans cannot be denied.
Would Yi fit in with the tough, defensive minded Celtics? His overall athletic ability may not be his strength, but he has been highly sought after by Danny Ainge since the 2007 draft. Yi has also shown slow but steady improvement each year, and may be an adequate replacement for Davis and Leon Powe with some tutelage from the Celtics veterans. My guess is that if this deal goes down, there will be some other spare parts involved on both ends, with the Celtics coming out slightly behind in this deal.
