Net Worth – Pacific Division – Phoenix Suns setting in the west?
The more things change, the more they stay the same. When the heralded free agent class of 2010 arrives, it will be one less than expected. Consistently frustrated with owner and management’s poor personnel decisions and tight fist, Steve Nash was a virtual lock to seek greener pastures as soon as he could. To the surprise of most, he has signed a two-year, $22 million contract extension with the Suns, meaning he is stuck in Phoenix through 2011-2012, after which he will likely retire. As much flack as is given for players selecting money over a title contention, Steve Nash has received no grief whatsoever. Believe me, I’m not trying to knock someone for loyalty, it’s difficult to remember another player who was constantly refused help over his career because of management, yet still chose to stay with the team. Perhaps he is a sado masochist, but he’s still pretty fun to watch. I may be a little jaded as I was more than enamored with Nash during the seven seconds or less days, and the thought that he and Mike D’Antoni could be re-married with LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, or whichever 2010 star would sign with the New York Knicks made my blood pressure rise. Now, we get to watch Nash finish his career with Grant Hill, Channing Frye, and Robin Lopez? If you’re a Phoenix fan, how happy with the future are you? Sometimes teams move forward, sometimes they move backwards, sometimes they stay in place. With the Suns offseason, it makes me feel they have no direction, and will soon be a sunset.
