Net Worth – Atlantic Division – New Jersey Nets rebuilding from the ground up

Nets owner Bruce Ratner is allegedly selling the team, in spite of the fact today’s economy is not filled with prospective buyers. He would like the team to ultimately end up and play in Brooklyn. Along with the move, he prefers to be an owner, but is actively pursuing other ownership to ease the financial burden he has and will continue to ender. The team has not been placed on the market, but Ratner is making it well known that he is listening for offers. Does this hurt the chances that the Nets can land a big time free agent in 2010? The Nets own a youthful and solid nucleus comprised of all-star Devin Harris, talented big man Brook Lopez, recently acquired Courtney Lee, power forward Yi “The Chairman” Jianlian, and first round swing forward Terrence Williams. For an up and coming superstar, it would seem an ideal landing spot, but the thought of the team possibly being moved after a sale, especially if the future location is not Brooklyn, could scare away prospective players. The Nets also gained a veteran backup in the Vince Carter, bringing in last year’s playoff star Rafer Alston. While it’s hard to see the Nets matching a less than spectacular 34 win campaign, the age and talent of the group may not be enough to warrant any more than that.
